The land, burned and barren waits. After an accidental spark from a fire starter, a raging inferno consumes 20 acres of dry brush.
The words spill from my mouth onto tender ears. Spoken in anger they burn windpipe, spewing soul scars. All are left broken, consumed by the rage.
A few weeks later the soil is plowed. The beginning preparations to plant seeds. The land still waits.
Daily I’m desperate, slowing my speech. Gently God’s Spirit leads into freedom, teaches me how to tame my tongue. The yelling yields as I whisper God’s Word. Planting seeds of contrition, seeking forgiveness, fighting for freedom.
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil. For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. Psalm 37:7-9
Anger has been a burden, a sin, God has been delivering me from for years. In the process of a class on Freedom: Living an Abundant Life on Wednesday nights I have had the privilege to remember how God has worked in my life in this area. In speaking with my children I remember how horrible, guilty, dirty I felt when I would lose control of my temper and tongue. God has cultivated repentance, a desire for transformation through the Word, and a life of forgiveness. We all have seen how far God has brought this earthen vessel. My heart burns redemption glory. Because of the resurrection of a sacrificial Savior I am trusting Jesus to deliver a harvest of righteousness.

Nancy, what a beautiful illustration of the pain and devastation left behind by sin . . . but the rebirth, the new life, when He comes in to turn the soil.
Thank you for this today. And for letting Him do this hard work in you.
What a beautiful and thought provoking post. One that, unfortunately, I really needed to read and heed. I have little time today to read blogs from Walk with Him Wednesday...so glad I clicked on yours! Have a blessed day and thank you again.
Nancy, what a very compelling post you have penned for Walk With Him Wednesday. Words...the tongue...is what God has been dealing with me about and I started a word study on the tongue. One of the most powerful verses in the Bible for me is Proverbs 18:20...Death and life are in the power of the tongue...thank you for your obedience in sharing because it gives me much hope!
