A Godly Example

Consider sharing in community: As we approach June and the month wednesdaybutton2of anniversaries --- and the month of Father's Day --- let's consider for the next four weeks: The Spiritual Practice of Holy Matrimony. Over the next four weeks, let's share any aspect of marriage/love you feel led to explore...

I remember the example of a Godly father being a Godly husband:   hugging mom every evening when he came home from work, picking up flowers and gifts on special days, staying faithful through the years.

Dad & Mom1

Dad: Thanks for always loving mom and setting a good example of a loving husband.

TO HONOR MY DAD:

Happy Father’s Day

What Is A Dad?

A dad is someone who
wants to catch you before you fall
but instead picks you up,Dad & Nancy
brushes you off,
and lets you try again.

A dad is someone who
wants to keep you from making mistakes
but instead lets you find your own way,
even though his heart breaks in silence
when you get hurt.

A dad is someone who
holds you when you cry,
scolds you when you break the rules,
shines with pride when you succeed,
and has faith in you even when you fail...

It has been almost two years since my dad passed away.  I still miss him, a lot, especially those times when I am doing things that he would normally do or that he was really good at doing.  Things like: keeping the pool clean, growing a garden, grilling out, cutting the watermelon, fixing the plumbing, mowing the lawn (mowing others lawns).  There are times when I am flipping the TV channels and I see a NASCAR race or perhaps it is Braves baseball – I think of dad.

Dad:  Thanks for all the times you let me find my own way.  For giving me the courage and security to even go my own way to begin with.

  1. Nancy, what a beautiful tribute to your dad. The one thing that I noticed as I read down over your post is the fact that your dad allowed you to be your own person and if that included making a wrong decision he was there to pick up the pieces. Reminds me of my dad. He's been gone for 27 years and I understand how you miss your dad. I'll think of you on Sunday.

  3. No greater gift for a child than for a father to love their mother--how blessed you are!

  4. Nancy, I can relate - my dad died 25 years ago. I still miss him. But my faith is in the Lord and I trust I'll see him again one day. If you want to read my blog post from Father's Day, go to this link: http://littlekissesfromgod.blogspot.com/2010/06/happy-fathers-day-david.html

I trust it will encourage you.

    Blessings!

The year has been reclusive as I have just been seeking the Lord and sharing tidbits. Today I quietly reopen the comments section for a while. Thanks for stopping by, listening, and perhaps sharing a word. In Him, mom2six.treasures
