Creative Journaling

In the closet sits a box full of journals.  They are filled with almost 30 years of ponderings, prayers, Bible studies, and other bits of life.  There are actually journals from the high school period of life.
Sometime during those years I began to sketch in them as well.  I’m not really sure what started the sketching.  It could have been a verse read or a worship song listened to at the moment.   For some reason at certain moments pictures flash into my mind.

Here are a few of the sketches over the last few months.  They are usually done in a hurry as the images come into my head.

Occasionally I take a little more time and have one of the children pose for me so I can get a better idea of how things should look.

Perhaps one day they will make it from the journal to a canvas.

Recently I have been considering purchasing a separate journal for the art that comes.  I have been admiring the art journaling at Everything Else Thrown In.  Dianne is a gifted artist and writer.   Her work is inspiring me to branch out and give it a try.

This local news report about a homeless man who uses his creative talents for the Lord spoke volumes to me.  "Palmore says his life is much like his art work...blank, at first, until God moves through him creating a beautiful masterpiece....He's a man with a colorful message that being homeless doesn't mean you're hopeless."  It is worth the 2:49 time to watch.

How do you respond when the Spirit touches your creative heart in a given moment?

  1. Dear, dear friend, first of all just let me say how much I appreciate the "shout out" and hopefully I will be adding some more soon.

I loved what you shared with us. And the illustration for the particular scripture just made it come alive. That truly is a gift--to SEE something in your spirit like that.

No telling what "treasures of darkness""--in a box in a closet--now that is dark--you will discover as you go back through the years.

And I just bet that they will bring us much light and joy--please share more and share what you are doing right now--

Don't be afraid to get a cheap little watercolor set (or a very good one) and add a dab of color--yes, just a dab goes a long way.

I hope to give a simple little lesson soon--

My life is out of control right now--well, I should say my house--with even this little bit of remodeling--can't seem to get my head above water--I tried to clean off my art table today--smile!

    Once again--thank you!

  2. We are, indeed, a blank canvas to begin with. And if we let the Artist color our lives, instead of insisting that we paint it ourselves, we will become what He intended for us all along.

I pray you continue to find His beauty and His truth through your art.

The year has been reclusive as I have just been seeking the Lord and sharing tidbits. Today I quietly reopen the comments section for a while. Thanks for stopping by, listening, and perhaps sharing a word. In Him, mom2six.treasures
